35. First Thursday on South Congress
Free things to do in Austin, Outside, Random Fun, Things To Do In Austin | 4 Feb 2010I figured that I should post this in one of the earlier months so that hopefully you can find one “First Thursday” to take advantage of. . This may be as Austin as it comes…

On the First Thursday of every month along South Congress generally from Barton Springs to Elizabeth Street stay open late – until about 10:00 pm. Some the stores have specials, sales, give out drinks, some of the restaurants and bars have drink specials as well. All and all it has the feel of a block party – - a block party at its finest.
Local vendors set up and you can find anything from handcrafted jewelry, art, clothes, to unique Austin artifacts.. In the mist of people you will see local musicians just set up and playing – it really combines everything our city is about!
You can not call yourself a true Austinite until you have been too a First Thursday – it is almost a right of passage if you ask me. The roughest thing about it is finding a parking spot but it is worth the hassle!
Now lets just pray for clear skies!
