58. The Veloway
Free things to do in Austin, Things To Do In Austin | 27 Feb 2010Austin cyclists today is your day, time to get out, venture over to Slaughter Creek Metropolitan Park and enjoy the Veloway.
For those that are not bikers how about a blast from the past and dusting off your rollerblades and heading out for some fun. It is 3.1 miles of paved asphalt heaven. Admittedly, for the serious biker a 3.1 loop may be a little mundane but for some Saturday excise, afternoon enjoyment, excellent scenery… this is your place.
Here are some pointers before you go: the circular loop is 23 feet wide, riders ride in a one-way clockwise direction and helmets are required by city ordinance.
The Veloway is only for bicycles and rollerblades! Walkers, runners, hikers are all prohibited on the Veloway.
Seasoned and recreational bikers alike will enjoy this Austin Treasure.
The Austin Chronicle named it one of the Best Places to Skate in 2009.
