68. Taco Shack

Restaurants, Things To Do In Austin | 9 Mar 2010

If you are an Austinite than you must give this local favorite a try, Taco Shack – family, owned and  operated here in Austin since 1996.. Let’s be honest it may have started out as a “shack” but is not really a “shack.” I must say something about them has quite a following because they seem to have die hard, loyal costumers.

They really know how to stuff their tacos full – let me say get SALSA, extra salsa because you may need it to spice up your taco. Great price for a meal that will have you so full you cannot get another bite of food down.

Those of you who are local football lovers know about the annual Taco Shack Bowl at House Park where arch rivals the McCallum Knights and Anderson Trojans face off.  The owners are former teachers and very dedicated to supporting local education – I love to see local business giving back.

They have been awarded “Best Taco” numerous times by The Austin Chronicle.

They open at 6:30 so hopefully that is early enough for you to stop by on your morning commute to school or work to get your morning Tex-Mex fix. This is defiantly a breakfast/lunch kind of place – beware that some locations close early afternoon.
