73. Zilker Kite Festival
Family Friendly, Festivals, Free things to do in Austin, Outside, Things To Do In Austin | 14 Mar 2010I have to say it was worth the week wait because the weather could not be better for Austin’s 82nd Annual Kite Festival. The festival normally falls on the first weekend in March every year but was postponed this year due to weather. This is a FREE event, needless to say the best way to spend your Sunday in Austin!
It is such an experience and has been called one of the best Kite Festivals in the United States. They have so many kites you really have to see it to take it all in, you can even participate in kite contests – only homemade kites are eligible to enter!
Dogs are welcome as well – but keep in mind that there is a lot going on and the focus is definitely on the kites! This is one of the best places to dress up your pooch, have them sport the doggie t-shirt.
Also, do not forget to pack a picnic just no glass!
WARINING: Barton Springs Road will be closed from 9am to 6pm today for the festival. They will have shuttle buses that will be picking people up at State Garage “E” (1604 Colorado St.) The Palmer Events Center will also parking garage on Barton Springs Road (east of Lamar) will have all day parking available for $7.00.
