91. The Mighty Cone
Restaurants, Things To Do In Austin | 1 Apr 2010Back to why I am really here…to support local Austin and fun things this city has to offer. With it being First Thursday, First Thursday on the First of the Month, imagine that – I figured I would think of something on South Congress that you could take advantage of while strolling SOCO this evening.
In 2002 Austin City Limit Music Festival (that is as Austin as it gets) contacted the owner of Austin Hot Spot, Hudson’s on the Bend to help them entice local Austin restaurants to join the festival’s food court. They wanted the festival food showcase Austin’s unique cuisine.
Hudson’s took a twist on their normal famous Hot n’ Crunchy breading on various foods and the chicken proved to be a festival favorite. They served food in a paper drink cone to make it easier on festival goers and that year at ACL they were the hot item to have. Each year they have continued to do this at ACL and a little over a year ago, March 2009 in an effort to make the cones available year-round they launched The Mighty Cone on South Congress.
Hope you enjoy First Thursday – do not be fooled I thought by the name that they were an ice cream joint – how far off could I be. I love the sliders and the chicken & avocado one. Definitely a fun place to try, take out of town guests for a change of pace and have pretty good prices.
Once again, thanks for playing this morning! Happy April, wildflower season, and April Fools!
