157. Night of the Bat

Happy Seis De Juno, what a great weekend to be alive in Austin, Texas. I would be doing this city a complete injustice if I did not blog on today’s Night of the Bat Event as the “Bats” are one of the things that makes this city what is it.
For those of you who do not know we are home the world’s largest urban bat colony. The City of Austin has adopted the bat as its official animal and tonight is the official kickoff to bat season.
Here is a rundown of the day. Two highlights, well three actually.
1) the Orignial Batman , Adam West will be making an appearance.
2) as will the Batmobile
3) Free Concert by Band of Heathens
Schedule:
2:00-4:00 – 1966 “Batman” move at the Paramount Threate, with Adam West. They be serving up a special Bat-Tini cocktail along with other fun Bat inspired stuff.
3:30-6:15 – Hyatt Fang-Tastic (get it, bats have fangs) Family Fest at the Hyatt Regency Downtown. Enjoy live music, face painting, games, a bouncy house, snow cones, cotton candy all proceeds benefit Bat Conservation International.
6:30-8:00 Adam West, Batmobile, The Band of Heathens and more on the Congress Avenue Bridge
8:30-9:00 Bat’s Fly
8:45 after the bat’s fly – Blue Lapis Light will be performig a special site-specific bat inspired aerial dance. The Dance Company combines aerial and modern dance techniques so check it all out!
Parking:
Palmer Events Center ($7/car)
- located on Barton Springs Road
One Texas Center ($7/car)
- located at South 1st and Barton Springs Road
Austin City Hall ($5/car after 5pm)
- located at Cesar Chavez and Lavaca Street
Hyatt Regency Austin (a fee to park may apply)
- located on Barton Springs Road west of Congress
What to bring: folding chairs, sunscreen, bats, blankets, cash for concessions (the actual event is FREE), pets, a picnic.
