259. Starving Art Mini-Urban Drive-In Movie Theater

Family Friendly, Outside, Random Fun, Things To Do In Austin, Trailer Eatery | 16 Sep 2010

I think bringing a drive-in movie theater back to Austin was long overdue. And now that the weather is starting to slightly cool off, what better time to have some old fashioned fun?

This little east Austin treasure has everything you need for a perfect night out, Austin-style. Here you’ll find a trailer park eatery, a concession stand on a boat, plus an art gallery. The trailer park features a BBQ trailer, a vegan/vegetarian trailer, a slider burger trailer and a smoothie & coffee trailer. The boat concession stand has s’mores, popcorn and snow cones. Surely I can’t be the only Austinite that thinks this concept is a fantastic idea and the perfect way to spice up date night. Did I mention it’s BYOB?

Movies run Thursday through Saturday with a start time at 8:00 p.m. Movies range from uniquely Austin films to mainstream classics like Star Wars and the Rocky Horror Picture Show (think Halloween fun). For a complete schedule through mid-November visit their website.

Cars must make a reservation and show up 30 minutes before show time.

Lawn & bike seating is $5.00, so you can come enjoy the movie on a blanket with some fold-out chairs.

If you’re as crazy about this idea as I am, you should know that you can rent out the space for private events as well.

This place definitely hit the jackpot when combining all things Austin. Enjoy your trip down memory lane, and maybe afterwards you can go to Mt. Bonnell and make out.
