262. Austin Free Museum Day
Family Friendly, Free things to do in Austin, Museums, Things To Do In Austin | 19 Sep 2010AARrrrrrr. Happy talk like a Pirate Day, I hope that you will all be participating in the fun throughout the day. For the pirate enthusiasts out there Opal Devine’s downtown will be celebrating today Pirate Style, they will also have a pirate costume contest! Here is my joke to go along with the day’s festivities.
Q. How do pirates know that they are pirates?
A. They think, therefore they ARRRR!!!!!
Now, onto today’s event, free museum day. Free museum day is exactly what it sounds like, free admission into all participating museums.
Over 30 of local area museums are participating, for the entire list visit,http://www.austinmuseums.org/index/museumday2010/.
Many of the museums have special exhibits and activities set up to enjoy today. You would have to be a real champ to hit all of them as it is just too much to fit into one day.
If it were me throwing out my top 5 suggestions for the day here is where I would stop by. Remember, they are all great stops depending on what is does it for you and some of them are free all the time so I would save those for another Sunday.
- Bob Bullock Texas State Museum
- LBJ Library and Museum – a personal favorite and previous list item (#.46) ! Always free but they are having some great special events today!
- Texas Archive of the Moving Image
- Texas Capitol Visitors Center
- Texas Music Museum – we are in the live music capital of the world so that stop just seemed natural to suggest.
