272. Texas/OU Torchlight Parade & Rally
Family Friendly, Festivals, Free things to do in Austin, Things To Do In Austin | 29 Sep 2010In light of yesterday’s events, I wanted to blog on something UT and this parade is one of those things that every Longhorn and Austinite should experience. It’s a night when the campus comes alive, and is absolutely oozing burnt orange and school spirit.
The Red River Rivalry is basically a rite of passage for every Longhorn. Take this opportunity to experience as much of the weekend as you can before everyone packs up and heads northbound on I-35.
For me, the OU torchlight parade was the first time I appreciated the true spirit and camaraderie all Longhorn fans share. The parade starts right in front of the Kinsolving Dorm. I remember sitting in my room freshman year as masses of people stormed out there to enjoy the parade. My favorite part of the night is at the rally when they drop the huge Texas flag from the main bulding.
This is a great event full of Longhorn spirit. The rally will have performances by Texas Cheer, Texas Pom, the Longhorn Band and the UT Dance & Roustabouts. — not the mention an appearance by coach Mack Brown and the football team.
