278. Texas Cuban

Things To Do In Austin, Trailer Eatery | 5 Oct 2010

Last week flew by. I can’t believe we’re already back to trailer Tuesday again!

For some reason I always miss Texas Cuban when I’m headed down South Lamar. It sits a little off the road, and might be tricky to spot if you’re not looking for it.

I’ve never been to Cuba or South Florida, where these sandwiches originated, but I can’t imagine you can find yourself a better Cuban sandwich in Austin, Texas. The El Cubano is where it’s at. The portions are huge and very filling.

The maduros are a must get with any sandwich. They’re fried sweet plantains, and they’re delicious. They also make hand-cut fries that are worth mentioning however, the maduros are truly unique.

This is just another one of the many trailers in town that continue to amaze me. I have yet to find a place that hasn’t far exceeded my expectations.

Also, they have a special the First Tuesday of every month! Today is a $5.00 El Cubano!

This is a great place to eat authentic tasting and well prepared Cuban sandwiches.  Im from Cuba and this is much better than “the other” high priced Cuban dine in places in Austin. Just a little hard to find.  Outdoor sitting in picnic tables only.
