344. Holiday Lights and Ice at Barton Creek Resort

Family Friendly, Random Fun, Things To Do In Austin | 10 Dec 2010

Growing up I used to play with my mom’s “snow village” Christmas decorations. I used to love making the families go to the little ice rink. Something about not growing up around outdoor ice rinks and snow made me long for those winter traditions even more. Even though we don’t see much snow here in Austin, my ice rink fantasies can now be fulfilled thanks to Barton Creek resort.

They have Austin’s largest outdoor ice rink this year, so come out and get in the holiday spirit! They also have a holiday shop that has gifts, themed Christmas trees, and you can keep warm by sipping hot chocolate and eating s’mores. One thing is for sure, every time I go ice skating it gives me an entirely new appreciation for professional figure skating. It’s always so much harder to get the hang of it than I’m expecting, but it’s always a blast!

All proceeds from skate rentals benefit Maggie’s Hope – an organization that supports families with autistic children.

To skate for free, “like” them and RSVP on facebook, http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=160484120655347&index=1 and on Wednesday, December 15th you and a guest can will get a 1-hour free skate session.
