5.11 Spider House

Bars / Happy Hour, Coffee Shops, Live Music, Things To Do In Austin | 5 Jan 2011

I used to think that Spider House was a just a place to grab a cup of coffee and study. Boy was I wrong! Yes, it’s a place to get coffee, and yes, you can study there. But there is so, so much more.

It’s in an old house that sits north of the University that they’ve fashioned into a café. It has a little something for everyone. It even has a full-service bar where you can get a pretty mean frozen margarita. They have a great patio, and I’m always a sucker for good outdoor seating. They have a good menu, so you can snack while you study, drink or just have a meal with friends.

For being north of the river, it has a very south Austin vibe. If you were new to the city and wanted to see local Austin, this is one of the places I would send you (among many others on the list). It’s unique, relaxing and artsy.

If you’re looking for some live music, they have free shows this week through January 8th.

Location:
2909 Fruth Street
