47.11 Volunteer/Donate/Get Involved With Austin’s Yellow Bike Project
Family Friendly, Free things to do in Austin, Sporting Events, Things To Do In Austin | 15 Feb 2011First off, thank you to whoever decided to slice my convertible roof open with a box cutter yesterday. That was the perfect start to my Valentine’s. I never was big on Valentine’s, and now it’s official. I really don’t like it at all. Thankfully, today is a new day with new adventures, and I’m pretty lucky if the entire car debacle is my biggest worry in life. So for karmic reasons, I wanted to give back with today’s list item.
I’ve wanted to blog on this nonprofit for awhile now. Austin is a city that loves to cycle. I mean, we are the home of Tour De France champion Lance Armstrong.
Austin’s Yellow Bike Project is a really cool organization that’s focused on everything involving bikes! The community bike shops are set up and run by volunteers, and instead of fixing your bike, they teach you how to fix it yourself! They also refurbish bikes and provide them to those in need. Their ultimate goal is to make bicycle transportation available to all.
This is a very cool project, and there are so many ways to get involved.
They’re always looking for volunteers at the shop. There are plenty of tasks for you to tackle.
For those looking to donate, they have an entire list of things they’re looking for (bikes, locks with keys, tools of all kinds, bike oil, cleaning supplies). For a full list visit: http://austinyellowbike.org/sp/get-involved/donate/.
