199.11 Way South Philly

I must have died and gone to cheese steak heaven! I used to think that I didn’t like cheese steaks. It turns out I just had never eaten an authentic Philly cheese steak.

The owner is one of the nicest people in Austin. I can’t say enough about how friendly he is. He’s an import from Philly, and he knows his sandwiches. He actually has the bread shipped in from Philly, and I really think it makes the sandwich.

The shredded steak just melts in your mouth. Lunch was so good, I went back for dinner! I was definitely having a “calories don’t count” day. I went with the “Balboa.” It’s their classic cheese steak, complete with cheese wiz.

They even have a special sandwich challenge. I don’t know the exact rules, but if you can master the challenge, you get to name your own sandwich! How cool is that?

They’re also always having fun family and dog friendly activities. For example, they currently have a “drum circle” Wednesday and are in the process of getting a movie night off the ground. Follow them on Facebook or Twitter for more up-to-the-date news.

And if I couldn’t say enough good things about this place, all of the tips are donated to the Lance Armstrong Foundation.

I am a realtor here in Austin, and clients are always asking for suggestions on what to do around town. So, I thought I would blog about my experiences, recommendations and what you have to do before you can call yourself a true Austinite.
