266.11 Pecan Street Festival
Dog Friendly, Family Friendly, Festivals, Free things to do in Austin, Live Music, Things To Do In Austin | 25 Sep 2011It’s time again for the Pecan Street Festival! This is probably one of the more popular and well-known festivals in Austin, and today’s it’s celebrating more than 30 years of downtown fun.
It’s like a huge carnival. In fact, this is the largest art festival in Central Texas. Local musicians will be playing throughout the day, and there will be more arts and crafts than you can imagine. They’ll have cool rides and Doc Seaton’s Major Side Show, which is a full block of magicians, jugglers, acrobats, and circus performers out to wow you. They’ll have everything from paintings, sculpture, woodwork, candles, jewelry, cowboy hats and loads more!
Don’t forget to pack your appetite. There will be more than 20 local food venders set up downtown selling carnival favorites like turkey legs and funnel cakes.
In case you’re wondering, 6th Street used to be named Pecan Street, hence the name. The east-west streets in Austin used to be named after trees.
