335.11 Zilker Tree Lighting Ceremony
Free things to do in Austin, Outside, Random Fun, Things To Do In Austin | 4 Dec 2011My heart breaks with another year and no Trail of Lights. I absolutely love it, and I’m sad that we have to wait another year for its return. However, all is not lost. Tonight the famous Zilker Tree will be lit for the first time of the season. There will be music by The Barton Hill Choir and Austin Civic Wind Ensemble.

This 155-foot tall “tree” is composed of 39 streamers, each holding 81 multicolored, 25-watt bulbs totaling 3,309 lights. It’s really something to be seen and an absolute icon as you go past the park in December.
The Zilker Tree lighting dates back to December 10th, 1967.
We may be missing the Trail of Lights, but December 5-11th HEB will be hosting HolidayFest Austin. Each night when the Zilker tree lights up, HEB will be handing out candy, fruit, treats, and more. Santa and his elves will be there so everyone can get their picture taken with Santa. There also will be face painting and with other holiday fun.
The Zilker Tree will be lit every night from now – December 31st, 6 p.m. – midnight.
When: today
Time: 6 p.m.
