I’ve always thought of sailing as a fairly majestic activity. I grew up on the Texas Coast, where one summer I spent a few weeks sailing, although I’m pretty sure I actually spent more time swimming in the gulf than actually maneuvering a boat. My dad grew up racing sailboats, but I think that gene skipped over me. I have however always wanted to try it as it seems SO relaxing.
Living on Town Lake, I recently started to notice an abundance of sailboats and I was suddenly intrigued. Could my desire to sail finally come to fruition?
Once I noticed that they seemed to be launching from the shore near the Holiday Inn, I decided I had to check it out. If you have any desire to sail or learn to sail, GO here. For one, the owners (a nice local couple) are awesome and the experience is one taught with a passion for the sport. This being my first time, I had a lot to learn.
My 20-30 minute lesson on land couldn’t have been more helpful in preparing me before I set sail (pun intended).
The experience was simply amazing, relaxing and more rewarding than I could have imagined. There is something about catching the wind in your sail that helps you finally just get it. I’m by no means an expert now, but I’ll definitely be back out to put my sailing skills to use.
This would be a great activity with friends, a date, or even by yourself. Mastering the waters of Town Lake can certainly keep you entertained for hours.
