Whether you need to blow off a little steam after a hard day or you want a safe space to gossip about Becky from HR, the Happy Hour is always there for you. If you’ve been looking for a new spot to head to ‘round 5, we’ve got a few options that fit your style.
Black Sheep Lodge
If you would like your happy hour to have a side of every conceivable sports-ball-game on big screen TVs surrounding you, Black Sheep Lodge is your bar. While they don’t have an actual happy hour per say, their daily drink specials are some of the best in town. Their menu contains several creative takes on American bar food like including crazy-good Smoked Chipotle Wings and Sweet Potato Fries with Curry Ketchup. One thing to love about this place is its sense of community. Don’t be surprised if smaller parties ask to join your table or you make a few new friends on White Trash Wednesday—making it a great place to try if you’re new to town.
If escargot and French 75s are more your style, happy hour at Péché is definitely for you. From 4-7pm, Tuesday through Friday, you can enjoy select dishes and cocktails at half price. Chow down on Pommes Frites with House-Made Ketchup or warm up with a bowl of French Onion Soup. The happy hour cocktails are simple, but classic. The New York Sour will remind you that Allspice Dram is a thing, but you can never go wrong with an authentic Daiquiri or Sazerac.
This rustic yet comfortable space offers 1/2 off artisan Pizzas and $3 Well Drinks, what more could you ask for in a happy hour? If you want to be a bit more sophisticated, they have $4 glasses of house wine and $8 house Negroni. You’ll also be pleased to know they offer complimentary fresh-baked focaccia with meats and cheeses when you order drinks.
The self-proclaimed “Austin’s original gastropub” offers half off all beers, liquor, and bar food Monday through Friday from 5 to 6:30pm. This touch of class on the Dirty part of Sixth Street offers tasty options like lump crab fritters, fried green tomatoes with bacon & tomato jam and a never-fail fried egg sandwich. On Martini Mondays, specialty cocktails like the Parkside 79 and the Hey Girl are also half off. After a couple of those, you’ll be relaxed enough to take on the rest of the week with ease.
If you’re an oyster fanatic like me, you’ll die sampling the variety offered at Perla’s. Enjoy their variety of options flown in daily from oyster farms up and down the east coast at 50 cents off an oyster. While I prefer to pair my oysters with a cold beer such as a Real Ale Hans’ Pils, you can sip on any of the drinks on their bar menu with $2 off. Grab a seat on the shaded oak deck Monday through Friday, 3-6pm and catch the last lingering hours of sunlight we have this time of year.
If you’d rather your day end with a few games of pool, a hard cocktail, and plenty of low lighting, get over to Drinks Lounge on East Cesar Chavez. From 4-8pm daily, you can get one of their specialty cocktails like the Hollywood Derby or the Texas Mule for a mere $5. They also offer $1 off draft beers and wells for those of us that like to keep it simple. As far as food goes, even the staunches of carnivores will find something on Arlo’s vegan menu that will satisfy their after-work munchies. Stop by on Tuesdays for free pool on their fancy new tables.
