Today is a marvelous day for an Austin tradition like no other, Eeyore’s Birthday. This is the 53rd time the city will pay tribute to the ever-so-famous and dependably pessimistic character from Winnie-the-Pooh.
This festival is basically the epicenter of the Keep Austin Weird movement. In fact, weird doesn’t even begin to describe this delightful event. Picture hundreds of people in costume dancing, sitting in drum circles, and running around maypoles to celebrate the fictional birthday of a fictional donkey. Needless to say, be sure to wear a costume. It’s kind of like the city’s annual Woodstock.
It’s also a kid-friendly event. Artists will be offering face painting and temporary tattoos, and groups will be selling food, soft drinks, juices, Texas beer, and more. Eeyore’s Birthday is one of the city’s most fun and well-known cultural events. It also serves as a fundraiser to benefit nonprofit groups in Austin.
