Winter Tree Fest

Celebrate trees in the Texas Arboretum at the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center with tree climbing for kids and adults, walks and talks, s’more roasting, fort building, a native plant sale and more. The Arboretum features a scenic trail, swings under the Cathedral Oaks and a substantial native tree collection.

Activities include:

  • Plant sale
  • Family activities, including: Tree-o-cache with TreeFolks, crafts, games, scavenger hunt
  • Cornhole (bag toss)
  • S’mores by the fire
  • Tree giveaway with TreeFolks
  • Tree climbing with arborists from the Wildflower Center and They Might Be Monkeys (ages 7 to adult)
  • Aerial tree yoga demonstrations by Yogapeutics (noon-3pm)

Walks & Talks

11 a.m. – Trees in the Landscape with Wildflower Center Land Steward, Michelle Bertelsen

Noon – Trees of Central Texas and Their Benefits with Brad Hamel

1 p.m. – Keys to Tree Identification with Colleen Dieter of Red Wheelbarrow Landscape Consulting

1 p.m. – Tree Habitat Walk for Kids with Wildflower Center Education Coordinator, Anjoli Fry

1:30 p.m. – Celebrating the Trees of the Arboretum with Don Gardener, arborist

2 p.m. – Tree pruning demonstration with Jennifer Hrobar

3 p.m. – Oak Wilt Explained with Chris Dolan, City of Austin

Book Signings
Noon – 3 p.m. in the Store

  • “Book of Texas Birds” by Gary Clark & Kathy Adams Clark
  • “Discovering Westcave” by S. Christopher Caran & Elaine Davenport
