Since 1938, Rodeo Austin has been the place “where weird meets western.” From kiddie rids and funnel cakes to mutton bustin and amazing live music, there is really something for everyone. Because the attractions and big-name acts seem to grow exponentially every year, we’ve compiled this rundown of everything you need to know about the rodeo before you go.

Put on your ten-gallon hat and all the denim and turquoise you own—it’s time again for the best time in Texas. Here’s the deal:

Rodeo Austin Ticket Prices:

  • Rodeo tickets range from $20 to $175.
  • Parking is $15 at the gate.
  • Fairgrounds only:
    • Children (2 & under) One Day Admission – FREE
    • Children (3-12 years) One Day Admission – $5.00
    • Adult One Day Admission – $8.00
    • Children Season Admission – $15.00
    • Adult Season Admission – $25.00
  • Fairgrounds & Carnival:
    • Children Wristband (One Day Admission & Unlimited Rides) – $30.00 online and $40.00 at the gate.
    • Adult Wristband (One Day Admission & Unlimited Rides) – $33.00 online and $43.00 at the gate.
    • Children Season Wristband (Daily admission & Unlimited Rides for 15 days) – $90.00
    • Adult Season Wristband (Daily admission & Unlimited Rides for 15 days) – $100.00.

      • Children Spring Break Wristband (Unlimited rides for one day with daily admission for Fairgrounds) – $25.00

    • There are performances at the Outdoor Stage, 100X, Bullet Proof, and at the ProRodeo.

Rodeo Austin Carnival/Attraction Facts:

  • Rodeo Austin is proud to host Austin’s largest Carnival. Crabtree Amusements proudly brings great entertainment to the Fairgrounds each year with over 80 rides, games and other amusements.
  • The Fairgrounds offers a diverse variety of delectable foods, top-notch shopping and exhilarating rides and games provided by Crabtree Amusements, GMC Concessions, and an array of food and commercial vendors.
  • PUBLIC TOURS:
    • The public can take a FREE tour and see a “Behind the Chutes” look at Rodeo Austin!
    • Gives the public an opportunity to see inside the 100X Club, Founders Club, Avenue of Breeds, Vendors, the Arena, and more!
    • The tour takes you all the way to the chutes, where you get to stand where the cowboys and the cowgirls compete each night.
    • Every day at noon and 4:30 p.m.;
      • On Sunday, only at noon
  • WILD WEST TENT:
    • Rodeo Austin’s Wild West Tent has attractions that are fun for the whole family!
    • Tomás Garcilazo – The Charro is a world renowned traditional Mexican Charro who’s rope artistry and horsemanship skills are among the best in the world.
    • Team Ghost Rider – This performance brings the jungle and rodeo together with sheep dog riding monkeys! These little wonders work together and bring the Wild West to life as they feature their special cowboy skills.
    • Mutton Bustin’ Mania
      • Presented by H-E-B
      • 75 kids will get to ride for the best score, is held in the Wild West Tent each Saturday at 3:00pm.
      • Children can still be signed up through our website for Mutton Bustin’ Mania!
  • KIDSTOWN
    • Kidstown includes the Great American Petting Zoo, Pony Rides, and the Southwest Dairy Milking Show.
    • Learn about milking a cow during the Southwest Dairy Milking show.
      • Daily Show Times: 10:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m., 2:30 p.m., 4:30 p.m., and 6:00 p.m.
    • Both children and adults enjoy feeding and petting baby deer, goats, llamas, and wallabies in the petting zoo!
      • Open daily 10 a.m. – 8 p.m.
    • Take a ride on a real pony! A kid favorite.
      • $6 per ride

  • AVENUE OF BREEDS
    • Animal Science Center features the Avenue of Breeds, an educational exhibit showcasing a variety of animals found in Texas that originated from various places across the globe.
    • One of the favorite exhibits is the hatchery, where baby chicks hatch daily.
    • The first week, Row of Champions will display the Grand Champion Junior Market animals from the 2017 Junior Livestock Show. The second week, Row of Champions displays the Grand Champion Junior Market animals from the 2016 Junior Livestock Show.
  • SWIFTY SWINE PIG RACES
    • Presented by H-E-B
    • Pig races occur daily and feature the swiftest swine in the business!
    • Catch the porky speedsters race around Pork Chop Downs International Speedway toward the prize of an Oreo cookie.
    • Daily show times: 10:45 a.m., 11:45 a.m., 1:45 p.m., 3:45 p.m., 5:30 p.m., 7:30 p.m.
  • BULLET PROOF
    • March 24 & 25, starting at 6 p.m. until 1 a.m.
    • It is an exclusive two-day event that closes out the Fair and Rodeo.
    • Bullet Proof offers dinner, drinks, live music and a silent auction.
    • This event is a great way to show groups of friends or clients a good time.
    • All proceeds earned at the event go toward Rodeo Austin’s mission.
  • 100X CLUB
    • Presented by PlainsCaptial Bank and Jack Daniel’s
    • Exclusive club offering hospitality on the Rodeo Grounds.
    • Performer for the 100X club is Monte Good and the Honkey Tonk Heroes and Jason Roberts Band.
    • Each night members and their guests enjoy live music, closed-circuit coverage of Rodeo Austin.
    • The public may also enter the club with a $5 nightly cover charge.

Competitive Events:

  • Rodeo Austin has over 7,000 entries for this year’ competitive events, which includes the Junior Livestock Shows, Open Livestock Shows, Horse Show, Gold Stirrup Horse Show, Longhorn Open and Youth Show, and Ultimate Scramble Championship.
  • CALF SCRAMBLE
    • Ultimate Scramble Championship (USC), held on March 18, 2017, is Rodeo Austin’s extreme sport for youth!
    • Unlike any other calf scramble program, USC is a one-day tournament in which competitors catch calves in hopes of advancing to the next round.
    • Half of all competitors will receive at least $1,000 in the form of a USC Certificate for catching a calf. The first competitor to cross the finish line in the finals will win a USC Certificate worth $5,000 and the title of Ultimate Scramble Champion.
    • With the USC certificates, winners can purchase their animal of choice: market steer, market lamb, market goat, market barrow, breeding heifer or Boer goat to bring to the next year’s show.
    • At last year’s Ultimate Calf Scramble Championship, there were over 160 young competitors.
  • YOUTH AUCTION
    • March 24th at 9:00 a.m.
    • The Youth Auction is the grand finale of the Junior Livestock Show and Youth Western Art Show, rewarding Texas youth for their hard work and accomplishments.
    • Last year the Youth Auction awarded more than $1.2 million in one day!
    • Community leaders, local businesses and supporters of Rodeo Austin assemble to reward these victorious individuals for their accomplishments at the Bullock Texas State History Museum
    • Supporting the youth creates invaluable possibilities and enables limitless growth and potential.
