Thanks to my Dad, I have been a Formula One fan most of my life. But until last November, I never had the opportunity to see a race in person. From the second I stepped foot on the grounds at Circuit of the Americas, my love of racing skyrocketed. The experience was absolutely incredible and has peaked my interest in other races out at the track as well.

I am especially excited about the American Le Mans coming in a few weeks. The Le Mans is a multi class racing event with everything from technically advanced prototypes to exotic cars and sports cars like Porsche, Ferrari, and the SRT Viper. What’s crazy about Le Mans is that while their are five different classes of vehicles with varying top-speeds, they all race on the same track at the same time!

One of my favorite races to watch is the 24 Hours of Le Mans, because it is just incredible to me to think that those guys race for a full day straight. Don’t worry though, the Austin Le Mans is a much more manageable six hours of racing excitement. This video does a great job of summarizing the rules and generally explaining why Le Mans is so much fun to watch!

It’s sure to be a weekend of awesome cars and lots of racing. Fun Fact: Actor turned Driver Patrick Dempsey will also be competing in this event!

Don’t forget that kids 12 and under are free!

There is a new marathon in town, the Hill Country Marathon (they will also have a half marathon and a 10K if a marathon is just a little too much to wrap your head around.) Are you having a hard time motivating yourself to get outdoors and run? By October the temperatures should be much more bearable and that gives you about 2 months to start training.  If you are going to run 26.2 miles, country roads, rolling hills make for a pretty gorgeous backdrop.  Not to mention there is just something plain cool about participating in an inaugural event.

I am going to take a moment to brag on myself, having ran a marathon, I will say there are few things more gratifying than crossing that finish line. I will probably still be telling people I ran a marathon 30 years from now!

A percentage of proceeds will go to Serve Who Serve, a nonprofit that is dedicated to serving the men and women who sacrificed themselves for the safety of our country.

We wrote about the big Formula 1™ race at Circuit of The Americas™ last year because of the very cool Official program that is available through Circuit of The Americas Experiences.  The F1 United States Grand Prix exceeded everyone’s expectations this past November, hosting the world’s most prestigious motorsports competition in spectacular fashion and winning “Sports Event of the Year” from the respected industry publication Sports Business Journal.

This year, the big race is set for November 14-17, and a major celebrity component has been added to the Official program with the unveiling of the Legends Club, where motorsports icons Mario Andretti and Jackie Stewart will mix with the fans, Formula 1™ driver Esteban Gutiérrez will make an appearance and where American Idol winner Taylor Hicks will perform a concert on Thursday night.  The Legends Club, presented by Circuit of The Americas Experiences, is a 20,000-square foot, climate-controlled hospitality venue where guests will eat, drink and relax on the weekend after viewing the world’s fastest cars from seating at varied track locations.

The Taylor Hicks concert immediate follows a behind-the-scenes tour of the $400 million, state-of-the-art facility, culminating in a private party in the Legends Club and the performance by the 2006 American Idol winner.  Heavy hors d’oeuvres, an open bar and a meet and greet with Circuit of The Americas’ Ambassador, Mario Andretti, will also be part of the scene.

A special “lunch with a legend” program with former Formula 1™ superstar Jackie Stewart is Friday’s highlight as the three-time world driving champion and safety advocate will do a question and answer session in addition to signing autographs and interacting with attendees during the gourmet lunch and cocktail event.

The Legends Club will remain open Saturday and Sunday, featuring interactive experiences, race simulators, simulcast television coverage, gourmet food and premium bars. A special appearance by Formula 1 driver Esteban Gutiérrez of Team Sauber, one of the sport’s promising stars, is also scheduled for Saturday.

The Legends Club happenings are already included in a number of the Official ticket packages (starting at just $999) or can be added a la carte, only through

The race weekend culminates with the F1 United States Grand Prix on Sunday and America’s most internationally prominent sporting event is sure to attract even more big-name celebrities with the inauguration of the Legends Club and the new VIP Celebrity Skybox venue (some seats available to the general public).

See you there!

Have you ever wakesurfed before? I can say that I have now! The guys over at Shred Stixx Wakesurf School took me out on their boat last week and I had a blast.

Screen Shot 2013-07-15 at 9.31.24 PM

They have two instructors, one who focuses on teaching younger kids and one that focuses on ages twelve and up. Having never wakesurfed before I was slightly nervous, but they are so awesome and encouraging that I was up on the board in no time.

They pull you behind their 2013 Malibu Wakesetter Boat equipped with Surf Gate technology, which creates the perfect wave. Once you get the hang of it, you literally feel like you’re surfing in the ocean, and unlike wakeboarding you can actually drop the tow-rope and let the momentum of the wave propel you through the water!

Screen Shot 2013-07-15 at 9.28.04 PM

The instructors are so chill, and it was such a fun afternoon. Another cool thing about wakesurfing is that it’s not too taxing on the body, and they claim that they can literally get ANYONE up out of the water. They’ve had students ages 5-65 shredding the wake behind their Boat.

We are giving away a one hour lesson for you and a friend: all you have to do is share this post & “like” Shred Stixx on Facebook.

They’ll pick you up at Hula Hut or at the 360 Boat Launch, whichever is more convenient and they even offer private instruction on your own boat if you have one!

These guys are creating a really cool brand/lifestyle here in Austin that I’m definitely all for. Did I mention that they make their own wake surfing boards with custom artwork from local austin artists? Do yourself a favor and go check them out! And Keep Austin Surfing!
