We are quickly approaching the point of knowing whether or not this year’s resolutions are going to stick. And if you are still determined to be one of those glowing, healthy Austinites who are always on the hike and bike trail, then we salute you!

Swimming at Barton Springs Pool
Barton Springs Pool is the fourth-largest spring fed pool in Texas with a constant 68 degree water temperature making it one of the best places to swim year-round. Here’s a fun fact: Robert Redford learned to swim here. We say that bodes well for your athletic aspirations. If you want to get in shape and live your best Austin life while you do it—swimming the length of this civic treasure should be a go-to.

Roy and Anne Butler Hike and Bike Trail
The Ann and Roy Butler Hike-and-Bike Trail at Lady Bird Lake, a lush, urban path that meanders along the water’s edge and passes by skyscrapers, neighborhoods, ball fields and cultural attractions. It is THE Austin workout and a great way to fall in love with fitness and this fabulous city at the same time. The 10-mile trail is Austin’s most recognized and popular recreational area.

Walnut Creek Greenbelt
A popular spot for both hikers and mountain bikers, Walnut Creek is an explorer’s dream. There are tons of unmarked paths, so you may get a little lost; but that’s more fun, right? With multiple winding paths and few obstacles, undertaking part of the trail is perfect for beginners. The hike offers plenty of overlooks, so don’t forget to stop and smell the roses on the way up. And of course, cool down in the beautiful creek on the way down.

The YMCA
An oldie but a goodie—don’t forget the Y! They have great group classes, a primo location, and all the equipment you need to get fit.

Hidden Hiking Trails
Research continually shows that walking is an amazing workout, and getting outside is obviously great for the soul. We’ve put together a list of our favorite hidden gems in Austin that may not be on your radar. All the trails are free and are within a 30-minute drive from downtown. Check ’em out!

If you want to get in shape, get hooked up with a supportive community. Camp Gladiator is a bootcamp with lots of heart. They offer unlimited workouts at thousands of locations nationwide to fit your lifestyle that are always different and geared toward all fitness levels. The trainers are super passionate and won’t let you slack.

Another great group option is this program that offers comprehensive eight-week cycle focusing on strength, speed and stamina. One Yelp review says, “Stronghorn is more than a workout group. It’s a true community. One of, if not the, most welcoming fitness families in the city.”

Love Cycling
This spin studio delivers big on fitness and spirituality! The 45-minute workout is intense and upbeat, with some instructors utilizing a giant video wall to make the classes so fun and entertaining that they totally fly by.
