Details On The New Flagship Store
Jamie Chioco, who designed the new Torchy’s – said it was designed as a tribute to the past. The look of drive-in restaurants during the 1950s inspired the look, he said. The architecture also recalls iconic Fran’s Hamburgers, which closed on the same site in 2013. “We wanted to be a bit referential to the idea of Fran’s and the architecture of that time,” Chioco said. “It’s still a contemporary building but with a couple of nods to the past.” – According to a recent article in the Austin Business Journal (http://www.bizjournals.com/austin/news/2015/10/26/torchys-tacosflagship-south-congress-store-sets.html)

There’s a new restaurant on West 5th Street and we love it so much we’re willing to forgive the fact that Houston had it first! Liberty Kitchen opened at 5th and Pressler earlier this month (next door to Tacos-n-Tequila), and while the menu is seafood-forward, you’re going to need more than one visit to fully comprehend everything that Liberty has to offer.
The space itself is beautiful and pays homage to both the Texas coast, and the Lone Star State in general, but it’s the exceptional food and superlative service at Liberty that really sets it apart.
The menu is a bit overwhelming at first glance, but the staff is uncommonly knowledgeable and happy to help guide guests through the various sections. Deciding where to begin is the hardest part! Our suggestion is to start cold… if you’re into oysters; they’ve got ‘em from the gulf and beyond.
Regardless of what section of the menu you decide to explore next, be sure to order the Deviled Egg Trial— Trust us on this one!

We tried several other remarkable dishes, including Lulu’s Sicilian Seafood Salad, which is one of the best salads I’ve had in Austin, and a surprising personal favorite (suggested by a very friendly Chef named Crash), the Point Judith Squid & Sausage Stuffing.

Other menu highlights include the 40oz to Freedom Gumbo, and the immensely popular Shanghai Salt & Chile Fried Lobster.

Still on my wish list: The King Crab and Cheddar Mac & Cheese, several of the daily specials, and the entire brunch menu. As I said before, Liberty Kitchen will take more than one visit to conquer, and I’m up for the challenge.

Chi’lantro fans rejoice! Their second brick & mortar location has opened on Burnet Road! They opened their first brick & mortar on South Lamar this January, and yesterday at their second location.
There is not a bad thing on the menu. But for the sake of conversation, here is the rundown of my favorites. Start with the chips and esquites (a magical mix of corn, cotija cheese, Korean pepper and magic sauce). The K-Pops are also amazing, after sampling all of them, I couldn’t pick a favorite. Also, of course you have to get the kimchi fries, they’re legendary.

It’s a good day to be an Austinite. The 2015 ACL lineup was announced this morning and today, Shake Shack on South Lamar opens at 11 am!
Burger monsters come one, come all. The wait is over, you can finally get your Shake Shack fix. They’re known for their burgers, crinkle fries and shakes, last night I put them to the test and they didn’t disappoint. They have local beers from Hops & Grain, Independence Brewing Co., Real Ale Brewing, Karbach Brewing Co. and Austin Eastciders.
Austin’s Shake Shack will feature a Lockhart Link Burger a cheeseburger topped with “griddled” Kreuz Market jalapeno cheese sausages, pickles, and ShackSauce.
Their dessert menu also pays respects to Austin with the Uchi-concerte made with Uchi and Uchiko miso hazelnut blondie and huckleberry jam. The Cold Shot, made with vanilla and chocolate custard, brown sugar caramel sauce, chocolate toffee, and malt powder is named after a song by singer, Stevie Ray Vaughan.
Shake Shack also features a pet menu that offers pooch-inis and dog biscuits. 5% of of Uchi-concrete sales will be donated to Austin Pets Alive.
North Austinites, fear not, a Domain location is set to open later this summer.

It’s always great to see when a trailer takes the leap from serving out of a trailer to having a brick and mortar location. The step has finally happened for The Peached Tortilla and I’m pretty thrilled about it.
I was there for a sneak peak this weekend and immediately fell in love. The décor is charming, sleek and retro all at the same time. Their restaurant also offers a full bar with beer, wine and a quite impressive list of cocktails.
Their take on Asian Fusion is bar none some of the best in town. Their menu is always rotating so it’s hard to give food recommendations. Most their dishes are made to be shared so I like to order a lot and just eat family style. Their restaurant does feature their famous Japa Jam burger, so you must order that on one of your visits there.
Tonight they’ll have another soft opening from 5 – 9 pm followed by their Grand Opening tomorrow.
Peached Tortilla fans, you’re day has come. Enjoy.
