Amplify Austin is a 24-hour drive of giving to local non-profits. Last year in a 24 hour period $2,789,382 was raised, and this year they’ve set an even more aggressive (and achievable!) goal of raising $4 million! Let’s help them get there.

Tonight, ChannelAustin is hosting Amplifest to kick off the day of giving. The fest will have live music, light refreshments, spoken word and other performing artists, and an opportunity to tour the ChannelAustin studios.

The 40 non-profits participating in the fest will have the opportunity to chat with party attendees, and to shoot two-minute pitches for their causes that will air on television throughout Austin!

I think this a great way to support any non-profit that speaks to you. I personally support Make-A-Wish Central & South Texas and the work they do for kids with life threatening illnesses.

I also volunteer with Outreach Afterschool, an organization that supports at-risk children in East Austin by providing mentoring and help with homework in those crucial hours between the end of the school day and when their parents get off work.

If you’ve been looking for ways to give back, but haven’t found the right cause, Amplify Austin is a great opportunity to check out over 400 Central Texas non-profits. Join the “I live here, I give here” movement!

Amplify Austin will fun from 6pm tonight to 6pm tomorrow, March 21st

The Amplifest Kickoff Party is from 6-10pm tonight

Austin’s 24 hours of giving is more than half over and we have already raised over $1,000,000! The out pouring of generosity to support local charities has made me so proud to be an Austinite. There is still time to donate, there are over 330 charities participating so there is surely a cause that is important to everyone. The 24 hours of giving ends at 7:00 p.m. tonight and there is a minimum donation of $25.00 so there is still plenty of time to donate.

I personally support Make-A-Wish of Central and South Texas but encourage you to donate to anything that speaks to you. Make-A-Wish is having a special giving time at 11:11 because many people choose to “Make A Wish” at that time! If you choose to support them you can donate here, Random Wish Trivia: It costs $5,000 to grant a wish to a local child. Here is a picture of a local wish kid on his trip to Hawaii, it just melts my heart!
