Mexican painter Gabriela Villarreal is one of our most popular abstract artists. She has been painting and exhibiting her work around the world for over 24 years. Her earthy color palette is accented by touches of metallic gold leafing. These dynamic paintings are inspired by the vitality and color of the environment of the home where she grew up in Monterrey.

Local artist Jack Sanders, founder of Design Build Adventure, a working studio and collaborative design, architecture, art, yoga, welding, and baseball community, launched his first local solo exhibition, Big Flat Art Show, featuring more than forty works on paper, at PREACHER gallery.Big Flat Art Show consists primarily of work from four series, each an exploration of material and, much like their maker, a triumph against delineations. His pieces will be on display through April 25th, and after his fantastic opening reception earlier this month, there are still a few stunning pieces available to purchase in person or online at shop.preacher.co. For gallery viewings, please contact Jason Archer (512) 560-2080, email@example.com. There will also be a closing ceremony and artist talk on April 25th from 6-9pm.
This year, the Art City Austin Festival presents Gallery 35, which will showcase specially-created artwork by contemporary abstract impressionist Roi James and will benefit Art Alliance Austin. The event includes a multi-course dinner by local chefs Nicholas Yanes of Juniper and Uncle Nicky’s and Melissa Carroll of Le Politique. The dinner will be paired with fine wines by Advanced Sommelier Paul Ozbirn and art-inspired cocktails by Nickel City and Uncle Nicky’s partner, Travis Tober. The night will incorporate live performances by Austin “Music Hall-of-Famer” Bill Carter, multi-instrumentalist Gabriel Rhodes and local artist and musician Bale Creek Allen on the drums. For an immersive experience, each element – from food and beverage to music – will be inspired by the work James’ is privately showcasing that evening. Tickets are limited for the event. Gallery 35 guests will also receive valet parking and complimentary 2-day VIP admission with VIP lounge access at Art City Austin Festival on April 13-14.

I am a lover of all things cars, especially vintage ones. I guess my dad’s love of cars rubbed off on me a little bit. I’ve always said that when I’m old enough to collect art (who knows when that will be), I want to have some pieces that feature cars. I always like to have my eye open for random art pieces that are somewhat car-themed.
I think this exhibit is really fun for both car or art lovers. It features several vintage cars that are published in the current issue of Borderlands. For a peek at the artwork that will be featured, click here: http://sliderarts.com/paintings/. If you’re a car lover and this doesn’t get your blood running, I don’t know what will. Naturally, all the paintings are the “rear view” of vintage cars.
Artwork is avaiable for purchase.
