The all-time family favorite is back! Through Teddy Bear Surgery, your little one and their favorite stuffed animal can step into our world at Austin Humane Society and a real-life animal clinic. Kids are invited to bring their stuffed animals along for a little TLC as our shelter team helps diagnose and then cure what ails them. Every southerner this side of the Mississippi has got a list of things they’re “fixin” to do. Well, AHS is no different! Our Community Cat program is “Fixin’ to Save Lives” and we’d love to show you more, no kitten!
Swing into our free Trap-Neuter-Return workshop on Friday, July 19th from 11A-1:30P and get the royal treatment from workshop leader, Sterling Davis AKA “The Trap King”. Hailing from Atlanta, The Trap King holds court with animal advocates young and old to promote TNR education/awareness, saving the lives of feral cats far and wide.
All the king’s horses and all the king’s men are putting this event together, ceremonies will be complete with demos, Q&A, local TNR groups and of course, sips and snacks! Donations will benefit the Austin Humane Society Community Cat Program.
Meeting with the Queen that day? No worries, The Trap King will be the keynote speaker at the Shadow Cats Gala the very next day at Marriott Round Rock! Visit Shadow Cats for more info!
Thank you to i Fratelli Pizza for donating pizza and salad for our guests!

Well-behaved, leashed dogs are welcome to join the fun! (In the event of rain, the movie will be shown inside the AHS Auditorium)

I have such a soft spot when it comes to our city’s furry friends. I love that we live in a city that embraces animals and have so many pet friendly places.
This is a great opportunity for people that are animal lovers and are looking for a way to help out our Austin Animal Kingdom, Foster a Furry Friend. To sum it up, sometimes animals are too young for adoption, have special needs, or the shelter is just filled to capacity.
It is essentially what it sounds like, you “foster” an animal until it is ready for adoption, surly there are plenty more details but you get the picture. I think this scenario is perfect for animals lovers that cannot commit to a full time pet.
To become a Volunteer you must attend a Volunteer Orientation – they can give you the detailed rundown of how it works.
I know that this is a big commitment but for the right people it could be a win-win situation.
Now for everyone that just cannot commit to fostering an animal you can help in other ways by donating items. Here is a quick summary of things they are always on the lookout for. I recently took some doggy treats to a shelter that I had leftover from the Mighty Texas Dog Walk and they were so grateful for the donation. Remember, a little donation from you can make a big difference in the lives of these animals.
