Austin Shakespeare will bring the romance, comedy and dramatic clashes of The Merchant of Venice to the Beverly S. Sheffield Zilker Hillside Theater in May.
Produced in collaboration with the City of Austin Parks and Recreation Department for the 35th year, Shakespeare’s famous play will be performed under the stars from May 9 to May 26 on Thursdays to Sundays at 8 p.m., with a preview performance on Wednesday, May 8.
The audience is encouraged to bring blankets, low chairs, and a picnic to enjoy their evening on the grassy hillside. Some chairs are available. The City of Austin is committed to compliance with the American with Disabilities Act. Zilker Hillside Theater is accessible to all audience members. Alcohol and glass containers are prohibited in all City of Austin parks.
Before you say, “You already blogged on that!” This is actually another free Shakespeare in the Park happening over the next few weeks, and this time they’ll be offering the classic, Hamlet. We’ve had great feedback from people who’ve attended the other ones, so we’ll keep suggesting them.
I recommend packing a picnic and a blanket/chairs to enjoy the play.
Tonight should be perfect weather for catching a play under the stars.

Last week I blogged on another Shakespeare in the Park and it was very popular. This week we bring you a different performance at a different location because Shakespeare in the Park is fun!
The Something For Nothing Theater is putting on a performance of Shakespeare’s Two Gentlemen of Verona. It is a fun experience that the entire family will enjoy. Grab your chairs or a blanket to sit on, pack a little picnic and come out and enjoy some theater in the park!
When: today, May 17th
Time: 8:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m.

This is some of the best weather we’ll have all year. It would be a crime not to spend some time enjoying it, and some Shakespeare at Zilker Hillside Theatre sounds like a perfect excuse to head outdoors. This year Austin Shakespeare is doing a Bollywood-inspired production of Twelfth Night, so it should be pretty entertaining.
It’s a great free show and something the whole family will enjoy. Don’t forget to bring chairs or blankets to sit on, and plastic coolers or picnic baskets are also a good idea. If you forget food or drinks, you can purchase concessions on site.
Cost: Free , donations welcome.
When: Thursday – Sunday’s now – May 27th
