Austin Shakespeare will bring the romance, comedy and dramatic clashes of The Merchant of Venice to the Beverly S. Sheffield Zilker Hillside Theater in May.
Produced in collaboration with the City of Austin Parks and Recreation Department for the 35th year, Shakespeare’s famous play will be performed under the stars from May 9 to May 26 on Thursdays to Sundays at 8 p.m., with a preview performance on Wednesday, May 8.
The audience is encouraged to bring blankets, low chairs, and a picnic to enjoy their evening on the grassy hillside. Some chairs are available. The City of Austin is committed to compliance with the American with Disabilities Act. Zilker Hillside Theater is accessible to all audience members. Alcohol and glass containers are prohibited in all City of Austin parks.
And now for something completely different! Tonight, Present Company presents the 3rd annual Shakespeare at the Market: Twelfth Night on the rooftop of Whole Foods. It’s going to be a beautiful evening and if you don’t have an ACL wristband, this is a fantastic game plan. Live music and “groovy vibes” are promised.
Founded in 2010, Present Company presents art in unexpected ways and unexpected places, bringing theatre off of the traditional stage and into people’s lives in meaningful ways. They offer all professional productions to the public free of charge. There is a suggested donation of $20 that will support the artists and the event.

You don’t have to be a Shakespeare lover to enjoy this unique and one of a kind show. The show will open with games, scenes, and songs in the style of Shakespeare and close with an improvised play.
