south bites

It’s SX, so instead of featuring a single trailer for ‘Trailer Tuesday,’ we’re giving you a whole park full of ‘em!

South Bites is a one stop shop for trailer food during SXSW. Aside from their stellar location (the parking lot at the end of Rainey), they also have some amazing places to grab a bite.

Here’s a rundown of my top picks from South Bites:

Burro Cheese. It’s a local Austinite and pro BMXer Aaron Ross’ latest project, and it’s downright amazing. They take grilled cheese to an entirely new level.

Chi’lantro. They just took first place in Austin’s Mobile Food Throw Down, and they’re legendary among Austinites. Try the ‘Kimichi Fries.’

East Side King. Post Top Chef, Paul Qui became a household name. His original project with friend and Uchi co-worker Moto Utsunomiya, was the trailer East Side King. Local Austinites know to go here to enjoy his delicious creations at a fraction of the price of his latest restaurant, Qui.

Gourdough’s. Eat an entire day’s calories with one massive, delicious donut.

Since it’s SXSW, it seemed appropriate to spice up Trailer Tuesday.  While we are still featuring “local trailers” today, it’s more along the SXSW theme of the week.

Top Chef winner and local food genius Paul Qui has done it again. He has orchestrated a gathering of food trailers to bring you South Bites. There is a section called “Qui’s Corner” which features some of his top choices including Cazamance, Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams, DUK Truck, and East Side King. While you are down there, it’s a must to try one of Mr. Qui’s own specialties so be sure to grab something from East Side Kings.

South Bites will also have a full service bar.  “Trash Artist” Jason Mecier will be there working on a custom mural.  South Bites does a great job of celebrating what Austin is about including good food, good drinks, and local art!

Open to the public.
