So the big music weekend of fall is finally upon us. Austin City Limits is finally here. I know there are plenty of people that have been planning and plotting this weekend for months now. However, for those of you that do not have the golden ticket but are still looking to experience some of the fun, I have just the thing for you.

Last night I went stand-up paddle boarding on Lady Bird Lake to watch the bats fly, and it was amazing. It’s the most unique way to watch the sunset and then check out the bats! I got to thinking that this weekend would be an incredible time to paddle over to Zilker Park and catch some of the music.

So for those of you that didn’t or couldn’t fork over the cash for ACL this year but are still willing to venture to that direction of town for some of the festivities, this would be as good of time as ever to finally rent a kayak, canoe or paddle board.

What I love most about summer is being out on the lake, I prefer things with motors but this Stand-Up Paddle Boarding has certainly become the trendy thing to do out on the Lake.  I have no complaints it’s a pretty creative way to get a workout in, so I’ll take that anything that keeps me out of the gym and I’ll give it a try.

For all of you that keep seeing them on the lake and having been dying to give it a shot, here is your opportunity. Austin’s SUP ATX has partnered with RunTex to offer free 5 Free clinics/lessons each week in Austin on Lady Bird Lake, Lake Austin and Lake Travis. I am not sure if these are going to continue thoughout the entire summer, I think through August but I am not making any promises!

I think that it is a great opportunity to get out there, put your inhibitions aside and try something outside your comfort zone. The fact that you can take a free clinic is just awesome to me, why not round up your friends or family on a hot summer evening and make a night of it? The way I see things is that this is just another step that we can take in our endeavors as a city to keep Austin Fit.
