While Sicily is growing in its reputation in the wine world, it is not as commonly talked about as regions like Tuscany or Piedmont… but it definitely should be! White wines refresh with a beachy salinity, rosés shimmer with elegance and red wines possess an unmistakeable volcanic minerality thanks to the lower slopes of Mount Etna. Learn about Sicily’s indigenous varietals and why the island’s terroir makes them so special; join as we taste seven beautiful indigenous white, rosé and red wines born on the southern Italian island.
The Hill Country Galleria’s Wine Walk is held the 2nd Thursday of every month from 5-9pm. Guests can shop a variety of retailers at the Galleria while discovering great wines from all over the world. Walkers and wine enthusiasts will start at Twin Liquors to pick up a map of the Wine Walk, and the map will also serve as a ticket for each wine walk stop. The walk is organized so that the last stop is a restaurant for attendees to then hang out and end the night with dinner. This event is open to everyone, so join friends, family, groups or a date for a fun way to spend Thursday evening.
Today is National “Drink Wine” Day. As if you need another reason to end your Monday with a glass of wine, today is a day celebrating one of my favorite pastimes. I’ve compiled a list of some of the best places around town to sip some wine to get you in to mood for the day. Check it out here, http://365thingsaustin.com/2013/02/18/places-in-austin-to-drink-wine/.
I’ve been passing by Winflo for a few weeks now and have been dying to check it out. I finally made it there and am so happy to report that it is on my list of new favorites. The atmosphere is fun, fresh, and very Austin.
My friends and I had a variety of menu items. Everyone, however, mananged to devour my Prosciutto pizza. It was one of the best pizzas I’ve had in a while and the clear winner of the evening. Other favorites on the menu were the Pasta al Forno and the Polpettone.
Their wine list is also very extensive and there was something for all prices ranges and all tastes.
All and all, this place is everything I was expecting and a little more and the outdoor patio is great for this springtime weather we are having.
Now, glasses up. Happy Drink Wine Day!
