Definitely shop around and get quotes from multiple vendors. Look at their Instagram, ask for example pictures of the food you’d be serving, look at their menus and overall, see if it fits your style.
Serving Option Pricing (From Cheapest to Most Expensive)
- One thing to keep in mind with buffets is a longer dinner service and having the MC call out tables in order of service schedule.
- Family Style (large plates set on each table for guests to pass around/serve themselves)
- This is a newer option and definitely very cost effective while also creating warmth at the table among guests.
- Plated Dinner Service
- By far the most expensive option, think steak dinners, surf and turf. Quality and high end but pricey.
Some places charge you for a tasting, others do not, so don’t go too overboard here or you can spend a lot of money. Do your research on your own and then select your top two to go taste.
Royal Fig – Has very competitive pricing with your traditional southern style cooking. Free tastings!
Peached Tortilla – Very Austin! Same company that owns Bar Peached, Peached Social House (where you do the tastings). Asian/Mexican/Southern Comfort food. Very inventive but also still cost effective. Peached Social House actually has large public group tastings where you can go in on a specified date and pay $19 to try a ton of their food. Otherwise tastings are $60.

Pink Avocado – Very popular, American food with a Mexican flair.
Crave – A more expensive option, southern style.
Contigo One of the more expensive catering options out there. All food comes from their own locally sourced Contigo farm with a big focus on ranch style cuisine. You can go try their style of food at Contigo restaurant in Northeast Austin!
MMH – Our favorite restaurant group! This will be probably the most “Austin” you can get. This group is one of the largest restaurant groups in Austin, including Jeffrey’s, Josephine House, Clark’s, Perla’s, Lamberts, Joann’s, Swedish Hill, Lou’s, Pool Burger, and Elizabeth St. Cafe. I think the list speaks for itself on the quality of food you will be receiving. The services can range in pricing, depending on which location you’re looking for food from. Off-site catering services go above and beyond staffing and menus. Fallon, the Catering Manager, can plan entire party for you – it is a one stop shop for event organization and production.
Pro Tip: Look at how many servers and bartenders they are suggesting and make sure that aligns with the layout. Sometimes when you’re looking at quotes side by side, you need to pay attention to the fine print on what one vendor is proposing vs. another. You can definitely find cost savings!
