We’ve been trying out different methods for sharing highlights from our weekends with our followers over here at 365 Things Austin over last couple of weeks. It’s been fun for our team to recap our weekends internally, but general feedback from social has been that a look ahead to the coming weekend would be more useful than our humble brags about all the cool shit we did over the past 72 hours. We hear you.

After some discussion, we also thought it might be fun to test an accompanying blog post where we could include links to events/businesses and wordier explanations of why we are suggesting the things we do.

I’ll be your narrator for this longer-form rant on our website- My name is Jason Neff, and I handle business development and wear some other hats here at 365. Also contributing to this roundup will be 365 founder, Kristy Owen, and our lead content creator, Emily Grant. I’ll write in the collective “we” for the purpose of rounding up a full weekend’s plans that I probably couldn’t tackle on my own, but don’t let that deter you from trying to pack all of these suggestions into your own weekend!

Here’s what we’re up to this weekend. Feel free to come along for any part that sound appealing, or save the non-time-sensitive ideas for a later date.

FRIDAY:

We’re going to the soft opening of a new restaurant from Mexico City, La Popular for lunch. We’ve been looking forward to this opening for a while, and we’ll share pics via Instagram to let you know if it lives up to the hype. The restaurant should be open to the public next week, and reservations aren’t available online just yet, but we’ll let you know when they’re live.

After that, we’re headed over to the just opened Bar Toti in the Este garden for happy hour to snag one of their Mexican Hamburguesas. We had the chance to sample one at an event a few weeks ago and we’ve been thinking about it ever since.

Moontower Comedy Festival is also happening, and they still have Club Badges available, so we’ll either snag one of those ($150 for the weekend) or just try to drop into Parker Jazz Club or The Creek and Cave with single show tickets (See FAQ on single tickets here).

SATURDAY:

Two words- EARTH DAY. There are a ton of earth day events happening around Austin, but we’ll be headed out to one of our favorite breweries, St Elmo, for a planting party in their new side-yard. Planting tools will be provided along with FREE BEVS. They’ll also be playing ‘mushroom bingo,’ and Brave Ceramics will have handmade planters on site for painting (tickets required for planter painting, everything else is free to attend).

Speaking of plants… Austin Reggae Fest (formerly ‘Marley Fest’ for longtime Austinites) will be going on all weekend long at Auditorium Shores. 3-day and single day tickets are still available.

Saturday is also Record Store Day and FSG will be throwing a party and hosting a car show at their warehouse at 211 Alpine Road. They’ll be offering 20% off all used records and they’ll have over a thousand new records for sale. The party goes from 11am-9pm (car show starts at 4pm) and is free to attend- drinks will also be free.

SUNDAY:

We’ll likely need to sweat out some booze, so we’ll be headed to Meanwhile at 9am for a FREE strength training class hosted by Athletic Outcomes. They ask that you bring your own mat and water bottle, and to kindly RSVP. After the class, we’re going check out the brunch menu at Side Eye Pie (located at Meanwhile)- they have a breakfast pizza that has been speaking to us.

If it’s not pool weather, we may sneak over to Nixta Taqueria around noon for the Wild World Natural Wine and Fermentation Festival. They’ll have hundreds of different beverages and food options from some of the best natural wine producers, brewers, and fermenters in the country.

After that we’ll likely need a nap.
