How is it already May? Weren’t we just celebrating New Year’s a few weeks ago?
May is predicted to be rainier than usual this year, and the current weekend forecast shows a chance of thunderstorms in the mix. The predictions have been spotty at best lately, so we suggest keeping both your raincoat and your swimsuit on hand.
FRIDAY
Top Pick: Head out to Mueller for Rock The Park with KUTX. The monthly event is FREE to attend, and is great for all ages. Pack a picnic and chill on the lawn, or grab food from one of the onsite food trucks and enjoy two live musical performances.
Also Friday: Cinco de Mayo – check out our guide for a roundup of several events throughout the city.
ALL WEEKEND
Top Pick: Pecan Street Festival is the city’s largest arts and crafts festival. If you’ve never been, you should go. If you have been, you should go back- the vendors are different every fest, and repeat artists also have new art. Did we mention that good weather?
Other stuff:
The Austin Record Convention – The largest sale of recorded music in the world is right here in Austin. 300+ vendors, over 40,000 square feet of music (excellent rainy day activity).
Art04 Studio Tour – Tour 60+ artists in 15+ stops in one of Austin’s buzzier zip codes.
SATURDAY
Top Pick: Head out to Jackalope South Shore for the 3rd Annual Dachshund Dash. They’ll have mint juleps and all the other Derby Day perks, but with the added perk of crowning one lucky dachshund king.
Other things:
Canopy (studio/gallery collective in east Austin) is hosting its monthly First Saturday event. Tour a bunch of local artist’s and other creator’s work.
SUNDAY
Our friends at Austin Eastciders are celebrating their 10 year anniversary with live music, crawfish and more. Entry is free but they also have $100 VIP tickets available that include food and “all you can drink” cider, wine, and cocktails.
If you’re looking for a more mindful Sunday, head out to Self-Care Sundays at Waterloo Greenway. This week’s practice includes ‘gentle yoga and meditation’ and starts at 9am.
