The kids are out of school for MLK Day Monday, so what better way to spend the day than celebrating the beloved Civil Rights leader?
Community March, Celebration and Food Drive
The March begins at 9 a.m. at the MLK statue on the University of Texas campus, travels to the Capitol for a rally, and then to Huston-Tillotson University for a celebration. Join the March or watch as they make their way through downtown Austin. The Annual Community March celebrates Dr. Martin Luther King’s legacy while uplifting diversity and multi-culturalism in our city.
This year, the March will support the Central Texas Food Bank. Participants are asked to bring non-perishable food items to donate. Donation receptacles will be available at The University of Texas and the Capitol, while the March is in those locations. Receptacles will also be available at the festival at Huston-Tillotson University.
Community Celebration & Music Festival
The MLK Community Festival kicks off as soon the march arrives on location and will last until 3 p.m. Enjoy vendors, food trucks, and local musicians. The festivities begin at 11 a.m.
