Design Build Adventure is excited to welcome Alabama folk art legend Butch Anthony to the property for a day-long art show, artist talk and celebration with Austin artist and Design Build Adventure founder Jack Sanders on Saturday, November 14, 2015. The event is free and open to the public. Both Anthony and Sanders will show new works of art, which will also be available for sale.
Butch Anthony is an artist, builder, collector and picker from rural Seale, Alabama. With an appreciation for found art and objects, his artwork incorporates old photographs, letters and more into his pieces. He has built a reputation for transforming discarded items into treasure. He’s also the curator behind the Museum of Wonder, a log cabin on his 80-acre property featuring a curious array of artifacts, artwork and oddities.
Jack Sanders is an artist, designer, builder and teacher, who founded Design Build Adventure in 2005, bringing the “Sandlot” philosophy he developed as a student and instructor at the Rural Studio under Samuel “Sambo” Mockbee back to Texas. This philosophy emphasizes community, spirit and fun as a major part of the creation process, from works of art to larger-scale building and design projects. Design Build Adventure also offers camps and workshops throughout the year that merge building, art, community and fun to create a memorable and unique learning experience.
Beginning at 6:00 p.m., artists Anthony and Sanders will host an art talk with visitors where they will discuss their work, from artistic process to materials and technique to inspiration.
Beginning at sundown, Sanders and Anthony invite art lovers and anyone interested in visiting Design Build Adventure for the first time to a mini-Doo Nanny. And what is a “Doo Nanny”? That is the name Anthony gave to the small art, music, film and food celebration he held previously on his Alabama property. They are bringing that same spirit of creation, community, and revelry to close out the show. So, come experience the art and then stay for music, dancing and refreshment by the campfire at the mini-Doo Nanny.
