When the weather starts to cool down, it’s an ideal time to get out of Austin and explore the Texas Hill Country. Fredericksburg, a charming small Texas town with German heritage and culture, is one of our favorite spots. It’s just an hour and a half drive west, and the scenic part of the state is now brimming with wineries, breweries, restaurants, and shopping.
Here’s why we really love it in the fall.
Fall Festivals
This is the kind of adorable place that always has something going on. But in the fall, there are a bunch of festivals that are worth planning your trip around. Don’t miss Oktoberfest, Texas Mesquite Arts Festival, the Knights of Columbus BestFest, and the Fredericksburg Food & Wine Fest.
The Great Outdoors
While out in the Hill Country, you can explore the great outdoors at one of the area’s parks or at Enchanted Rock State Natural Area. When visiting Enchanted Rock, be sure to make reservations to guarantee entry. The area also provides great stargazing.
Texas Wine Month
October is Texas Wine Month, and area vineyards and tasting rooms will be releasing new vintages. Spend time on the patio while sipping wine and enjoying great live music.
