Just over an hour west of Austin, Fredericksburg sits at the heart of the scenic Texas Hill Country. This has always been one of our favorite escapes for a weekend or even just a quick trip for a day. The small town’s award-winning culinary scene, distinct places to stay, and numerous outdoor adventures are the reason it is consistently named one of America’s Most Romantic Small Towns.

And if it is the biggest special occasion of all, Fredericksburg has over 60 venues that can host a splendid Texas Hill Country wedding.

Finally, our biggest pro tip is to visit Fredericksburg during the week for more room at local shops and restaurants, and a more personalized experience at wineries. Most restaurants, shops, and attractions are open all week long. Plan for a Sunday–Thursday visit to experience the area at a slower pace and to have even more lodging options, as weekends are a popular time to visit.
