Beekeeping Deep Dive at TreeHouse

Oct 15, 2016 @ 10:30 am - 12:15 pm

ABOUT EVENT:
Intrigued by honey bees? Curious if urban beekeeping is for you? This introductory class is geared towards those that are eager to learn how and where to begin a journey as a hobbyist beekeeper. Beekeeping is incredibly rewarding, but we know how overwhelming the hobby can be to start. Let us help!
We will discuss basic honey bee biology and behavior and learn about the inner workings of a hive. The majority of the class will focus on how to get started as an urban beekeeper, including discussions of the City of Austin regulations, a demonstration of necessary equipment, and information on where you can get your own bees. You will walk away with an understanding of the critical timelines to start your own hive and the time and financial commitment required. We will provide you with a booklet of resources and a handy decision guide to help you start your very own bee hive. After this class, you will be primed to continue your bee education with a hands-on field workshop.
WHO:
Tara Chapman started as a hobbyist beekeeper several years ago, on a whim, and quickly became quite enamored with bees. Within a year she decided to leave a job that had taken her in and out of conflict zones for the federal government for ten years and follow her passion for beekeeping. She owns her own honey and bee education services company, Two Hives Honey.
WHEN: Saturday, October 15 from 10:30a.m. to 12:30p.m.
FEE/WHERE TO REGISTER: Fee for this two hour class is $35. Reserve your spot online and pay on the day of the class at TreeHouse
