Boardwalk Grand Opening

Saturday, June 7, 2014 at 10am
Lakeshore Trailhead, eastern end of the Boardwalk, Ann & Roy Butler Hike-and-Bike Trail

Join The Trail Foundation and the City of Austin as we celebrate the grand opening of the Boardwalk on the Ann and Roy Butler Hike-and-Bike Trail at Lady Bird Lake. Themed “Run, Walk or Bike on Water,” the celebration will feature a ribbon cutting ceremony, music by the SoundWaves, a festive march across the Boardwalk led by the Eastside Panther Drumline, and an aerial dance performance under I-35 by Blue Lapis Light, which has been underwritten by Silicon Labs. Don’t miss out on this momentous event.

Presented by The Trail Foundation and underwritten by Silicon Labs, East~West is a site-specific aerial dance performance by Blue Lapis Light, taking place at 11:45 under the IH-35 bridge in celebration of Austin’s new Boardwalk. Six dancers will perform dynamic lyrical movements over the lake while suspended from the columns under the bridge. The intrinsic beauty of the site is a breathtaking collaborator for the opening of the Boardwalk.  The Boardwalk and the performance symbolize joining east and west Austin.

Silicon Labs is generously underwriting this performance because it is an extraordinary display of  physics and geometry within the harmony of nature at our urban gem, a complete Butler Trail at Lady Bird Lake.

Thanks to those who are supporting the day’s festivities: TTF, Silicon LabsCWS Capital Partners, LLCSt. David’s Foundation and Texas Coffee Roasters

This is an outdoor park event – please dress comfortably and wear appropriate footwear.

The City will open the Boardwalk the morning of June 7th so it can be used to get to the opening ceremony. There will be a detour to the sidewalk for a short distance to keep the ceremony area clear for the ribbon-cutting and march.
