♦︎ DUSTBOWL REVIVAL ♦︎
Dustbowl Revival is an Americana Soul band with eight full-time members who mash the sounds of New Orleans funk, bluegrass, soul, pre-war blues, and roots music, into a genre-hopping, time-bending dance party that coaxes new fire out of familiar coal. Dustbowl is touring behind their self-titled, fourth studio album which spent three weeks on Billboard charts, hit #1 on Amazon Americana-Alt-Country, #2 on Amazon Folk, and spent 16 weeks on the Americana radio chart peaking in the Top 20.
♦︎ LINDI ORTEGA ♦︎
Lindi Ortega gives fair warning: “Don’t come any closer to my heart /If you’re afraid of the dark.”
However, that shroud is slowly lifted in ‘Liberty.’ As the narrative unfolds in this concept album, a central character emerges – one who finally sheds the darkness of her past and emerges into the light. As melodies and tempos change throughout ‘Liberty,’ her journey carries her steadily forward. Listen closely and you’ll find Ortega’s experiences in the lyrics too.
“I think the most important thing for me was that I ended on a very positive note because I’ve had so many people tell me that my songs helped them through really hard times in their life,” Ortega says. “That struck a chord for me, because just like everybody else, I have had hard times in my life, and continue to have pockets of difficult moments here and there. If I can provide some sort of solace with my music, then that gives me every reason to make music. I wanted this record to be all about helping people through the darkness.”
♦︎ PR NEWMAN ♦︎
“So, how on earth did the moniker “PR Newman” surface, in which the “PR” doesn’t even refer to someone’s name, or the fact that it might be a public relations business? The story is far more interesting than that; he earned the nickname “Punkrock Randy Newman” from a gent named Grimey, proprietor of The Basement in Nashville, when Garland was still playing keys for the Berkshire Hounds. Spot on. Garland thought it’d be the perfect name for a solo project.
After making music under other assorted names, PR Newman became the one and only, with Brendan Bond (A Sinclair), Jordan Cook (Warren Hood, BloodPumps), and Z Lynch (Leopold and His Fiction) jumping on late last year to form his live band. Born from a lifetime of solo test runs, former Hounds’ front-man, Matthew Logan Vasquez (Delta Spirit)’s guitar and keys live band, a new flurry of tunes on debut “Turnout” released early this year, displays his most recent and focused material after years away from the writing game.”
