This is an Austin tradition like no other, and today marks the 51st time the city will pay tribute to the ever-so-famous Winnie the Pooh character.
Keeping Austin Weird would not even correctly begin to describe this festival. The crowd is, well, eccentric. It’s kind of like the city’s annual Woodstock. Picture hundreds of people in costume dancing, sitting in drum circles and running around Maypoles to celebrate the fictional birthday of a fictional donkey. Needless to say, be sure to wear a costume.
It’s also a super kid-friendly event. Artists will be offering face painting and temporary tattoos, and groups will be selling food, soft drinks, juices, Texas beer and more. It’s of one of the city’s most fun and well-known cultural events. It also serves as a fundraiser to benefit nonprofit groups in Austin.
Parking could be tough. Visit the website for all the information. I suggest anything from taking the free shuttle or riding your bike, because finding a space could be a nightmare.
