The Hotel Ella Salon Series presents Unseen Texas: Antebellum Plantations as Remembered by Former Slaves with Dr. Kenneth Hafertepe
Join Hotel Ella on Tuesday, August 13th at 6 p.m. for this month’s Salon Series event discussing Unseen Texas: Antebellum Plantations as Remembered by Former Slaves with Dr. Kenneth Hafertepe. Our perception of architecture and domestic life around plantation slavery is often skewed by the sources we gather from. In this month’s Salon Series, Dr. Kenneth Hafertepe, Fellow of Texas State Historical Association and Chair and Professor of Museum Studies at Baylor University, will guide us through a discussion of what former slaves said about their living conditions. Dr. Hafertepe will focus on narratives that provide us with an idea of how these slaves prepared for a future that, though by no means perfect, was better — as well as a much clearer picture of the arrangement and functioning of the antebellum plantation. Salon Series events are free and open to the public. Kindly RSVP to save your spot at hotelellasalonseries.splashthat.com. Food and beverages available for purchase during the event.
