India Fine Arts: “Master of Percussion” Concert feat. Grammy Winning Percussionist
Oct 15, 2016 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm
$25The “Amazing Masters of Percussion” concert on October 15th at the Westlake Performing Arts Center, will bring traditional Southern Indian “Carnatic music,” to Austin thanks to Grammy Award winning percussionist Vikku Vinayakaram—supported by his sons, also percussion wizards Selvaganesh and Umashankar, and grandson Swaminathan.
The performance will be preceded by a healing “Swara Yoga” meditation concert, by acclaimed violinist and vocalist Ganesh Rajagopalan.
Traditional Indian instruments and techniques ranging from the Ghatam, Kanjira, Morsing, the Indian classical violin, and Konnakol — the art of vocalizing percussion syllables — will be involved.
Audiences less familiar with traditional Indian music or Carnatic repertoire will have numerous references in the work of many Western artists, such as noted jazz guitarist John McLaughlin. This is a night for everybody.
Children, seniors, and students have discount tickets for $15.
