Banger’s third annual Oktoberfest is back and has the potential to be the largest Oktoberfest celebration the City of Austin has ever seen. With a jam-packed schedule of live music, events, and games spanning 10 of the 16 days of Oktoberfest there should be something for everybody. To participate in the activities, such as hammerschlagen, HUMAN PIN BALL, chicken shit bingo and stein races, guest can arrive and sign up on the day of or just sit back and enjoy them as spectators.
In addition to all the pomp and circumstance, Banger’s is still staying true to its roots of house made sausage and ice-cold craft beer. Each week, they will be featuring a different local brewery, along with tons of authentic German varieties as well.
While most of Banger’s standard menu favorites will still be available, a few have been removed to make way for the following Oktoberfest-inspired specials:
Appetizers
Bierwurst
Smoked beef and pork snack sausages
served with house-made pickles and spicy mustard.
German Potato Pancake
If a German Potato Salad and a Jewish Latke had a love child,
this would be it. Served with a side of applesauce and sour cream.
Spaetzle
A very traditional German flour dumpling browned in butter.
This stuff is like German crack; it’s so damn addictive.
Sausages
Coburger
Light and delicate veal and pork sausage simply seasoned with
nutmeg and a little lemon zest on a kolache bun with sauerkraut
and spicy mustard.
Krautwurst
Take a bratwurst, stuff it with bacon and sauerkraut,
serve it on a kolache bun with caramelized onions and
spicy mustard, and this is what you get.
Bockwurst
Berlin original – pork and veal served on a kolache bun
with caramelized onions and grain mustard
Schnitzel Sausage
Thinly pounded pork cutlet, stuffed with bacon lardons and
sauerkraut dusted with panko bread crumbs and then lightly fried
to a golden brown. It’s served over a buttery spaetzle and
a side of our house made spicy mustard.
Weisswurst
A delicate veal and pork, white sausage, poached in beef broth
served with a pretzel and side of spicy mustard.
