Violet Crown Festival

May 2, 2020 @ 10:00 am - 5:00 pm

Free

Springtime means the Violet Crown Festival is on the horizon! This art-filled, neighborhood event brings together music, food, shopping, and loads of free kids’ activities. Mark your calendars for Saturday, May 2nd from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Brentwood Park (6710 Arroyo Seco, access from Yates) is the setting for this beloved festival, and admission is free.

The annual event will again showcase local, live music, art vendors, Austin food, community resources, and family activities. Proceeds from the festival will benefit projects in the Brentwood and Crestview communities.

Violet Crown Community Works (VCCW), the non-profit behind the festival, gives back to the community via donations to local non-profits, including financial support for the first phase of the Brentwood Playground Project. Construction on the new playground is expected to begin early spring 2020, with multiple phases to follow. Our festival relies on support from major sponsors including Juice Homes, Grande Communications, Eldorado Cafe and Little Deli.

Shop: Austin’s most creative crafts and fine arts will represent in 40+ artisan booths, while the festival’s legendary silent auction will feature offerings from favorite local businesses. This year’s silent auction will benefit playground equipment improvements at Brentwood Park.

Eat: Picnic in the park with tasty bites and bevs from Austin’s local food scene, including neighborhood favorites Arlan’s Domino Dogs, El Dorado Cafe, Amy’s Ice Cream, and Snowie’s Snow Cones.

Dance: It’s not an Austin festival without live music! Groove to the music of Dickie Lee Erwin, The Reverent Few, Jenny Parrott, and the Rob Halverson Trio. In addition, Paragon Prep’s 5th Grade Ukulele Group will be showing off their hard-earned skills.

Play: Enjoy Texas Juggling Society performances, face painting, and community-sponsored activities like life-sized Jenga and chess, a maypole, ladder golf, hula-hoops, and many different make-and-take craft stations.

Parking is limited, so attendees are encouraged to walk or cycle to the festival.

Violet Crown Community Works is a 501(c) (3) nonprofit organization based in Austin, Texas, helping build and sustain community in Brentwood and Crestview by supporting neighborhood enhancement projects and events. Information on past beneficiaries of VCCW funds is available on the “projects” page of the group’s website. For more information, visit violetcrowncommunity.org
