We wanted to shine a light on a nonprofit that is focused on an especially vulnerable population that has the potential to fall through the cracks in uncertain times like these.

The mission of Seedling is to support children challenged by parental incarceration with innovative, research driven, school-based mentoring. Due to social distancing, the nonprofit has turned their 2020 Fab Five fundraiser previously scheduled for April 25 into a week-long online event.

Funds raised during the Fab Five event represent 20 percent of the organization’s budget, which supports 650 school aged children who have an incarcerated parent in the greater Central Texas area. Right now, in addition to their normal worries, they may have food insecurity and have concern about their caregiver’s job and health. Seedling’s goal is to support the children by mentoring in innovative ways in the coming months.

The online event will have an auction that supporters can bid on any time between 8:00 a.m. on Friday, April 24th and 8:00 p.m. on April 28th to help meet a $50,000 match!

There will also be video stories of mentors and mentees each day, musical performances by Saul Paul, The Mrs. band, Shelley King, and other artists. If you want to directly support children who have an incarcerated parent during an especially stressful time in their young lives by being a sponsor, making a donation in honor of one of our honorees, or by bidding on one of the great auction items, please go to the event website to register and learn more!
