No matter what’s changing everywhere you look in the Live Music Capital of the World, the spirit of old Austin is always alive and well for a few days in January each year.

Free Week was launched at the old Emo’s on Sixth and Red River way back in 2003 to help clubs boost business at a time of year when revenues are usually down. Twenty years later, it has mushroomed into a highly anticipated annual event. This year more than 100 local and national artists will play around at more than 15 venues in the Red River Cultural District for special shows with free admission. Most clubs are within walking distance of each other so you can just head downtown and go with the flow.

It’s an awesome way to check out some of the best bands and venues in Austin—and start the year off right. Check out the full lineup here!

When: Thursday, January 5th–Saturday, January 7th

In her previous life, Kristy was an uninspired realtor who was feeling a little bit bored with her day to day. So on January 1, 2010, she made a New Year’s resolution to write about one thing to do each day in her beloved city of Austin, Texas. And thus, 365 Things Austin was born.
