My family lived in lobster-loving Rhode Island when I was in high school, and I typically lost the debate (in other’s minds at least), when I tried to convince them that snow crab has a superior flavor to lobster. There have been multiple lobster-focused food trucks in Austin over the years—serving it in rolls, or mixed in with mac and cheese—but my preferred crustacean has historically been treated like chopped liver. Until now.

Enter Krab Kingz Seafood, a food truck that specializes in snow crab and serves other ocean delicacies (including lobster, but why would you?) relatively affordably for the massive amount of food included in each order. I usually go with the #2 Dinner Combo, which comes with two crab clusters, sausage, corn, a hardboiled egg (why not?), and about a half pound of potatoes. Regular melted butter is included at no extra charge, but I highly recommend going with one of the flavored butters for an additional 99 cents. My favorites are the cajun butter and the honey garlic butter. And yes, they will mix multiple butter flavors together if you ask.

The staff here is always super friendly, and there is typically plenty of free parking in front of the liquor store adjacent to the food truck. However, it should be noted that Krab Kingz is located at the corner of 6th Street and the I-35 access road, and some online reviewers have expressed frustration with the amount of displaced people in the area. If that makes you uncomfortable, I recommend placing your order to-go, and eating it in the comfort of your own home. Crab is pretty difficult to eat with plastic cutlery anyway!
